Milan Nestarec

Milan Nestarec

Milan Nestarec is a family wine grower from South Moravia in the Czech Republic, working around the villages of Velké Bílovice and Moravský Žižkov. After the Velvet Revolution, the family regained a small vineyard plot in the early 1990s, and in 2001 they began building the estate properly. Milan’s father brought plant material and hands-on know-how from years in a German vine nursery. Milan was trusted with the cellar when he was 16. Today he often talks about freedom and not copying styles that don’t belong to his place.

In the vineyards, they farm without herbicides, pesticides, industrial fertilisers, or systemic treatments. Some biodynamic practices are used, but only when they make sense in the moment. Milan also speaks about farming as a long project—healthier soils and more diversity on the land.

In the cellar, he sometimes calls his wines “normal.” For him that means hand harvest, fermentation with the yeasts already on the grapes, gentle pressing, and no fining or filtration. Additions are kept to a minimum (including sulfur, when possible), and time in tanks and older barrels does most of the work. He cares about consistency and wants the wines to stay fresh and full of life after a few years in bottle.

Nestarec is still a family project: you’ll often see his parents involved, supported by a small team. The range goes from easy table wines (like the Forks & Knives line) to more personal bottlings—made to be opened with food and friends, not just analysed.
