Kitsune is a red wine made from Blaufränkisch, or Frankovka, grown in the Spodní vineyard in Moravský Žižkov. The site is protected in a valley, with calcareous loess soil and a sunny southern exposure, giving the wine both structure and a light, graceful feel.
The name comes from Japanese folklore, where kitsune are fox spirits known for changing shape as they grow older. It suits this wine well: it is smooth and well built when young, but made to slowly reveal more detail with time.
The vineyard has diverse vine genetics, with grapes ripening in slightly different ways. This gives Kitsune a character that can feel almost Pinot-like: fine, layered and easy to enjoy, but not simple. It is fermented with native yeasts, aged in large Stockinger oak foudres, and bottled without fining or filtration.
