Didier Grappe

Didier Grappe

Domaine Didier Grappe is a small family estate in Saint-Lothain, in the Jura, where Didier Grappe began planting vines in the early 2000s after studying winegrowing in Beaune. Today the domaine covers about 4 hectares, all in the Côtes du Jura area, and Didier now works together with his son Jules, which gives the project a real sense of continuity.

What makes Didier Grappe stand out is not a search for style, but a clear idea of how farming should be done. He works organically, avoids synthetic chemical treatments, and relies mainly on copper, sulfur, and plant extracts. In the cellar, his approach is just as direct: spontaneous fermentations, no selected yeasts, no enzymes, no chaptalization or acid correction, and in many wines no added sulfites, filtration, or other corrections. For him, the goal is simple: healthy grapes first, then wine with as little intervention as possible.

Another important part of the domaine is Didier’s work with hybrid grapes. He sees them as a practical answer to disease pressure and frost, and as part of the future of Jura winegrowing. This independent mindset also explains his distance from strict convention: he is more interested in living vineyards, honest wine, and keeping bottles within reach of normal drinkers than in following rules for their own sake.
