Traminer Champ Rouge is a Jura white made from Savagnin, also known locally as Traminer, one of the historic grapes of the region. The fruit comes from the Champs Rouge parcel, planted on grey and red marl soils that add depth and a gentle mineral edge to the wine.
Didier Grappe works with organic farming and very low intervention in the cellar. The wine ferments spontaneously, is not fined or filtered, and is made without added sulphur. It is aged for around a year in oak barrels and kept ouillé (topped up), so it is not in the traditional oxidative Jura style. Instead, it shows the grape in a very pure, lively way.
Expect a dry, characterful white with plenty of energy, good structure and the ability to age for several years. It works well on its own as an aperitif and at the table with roast chicken, simple white meats or lightly spiced dishes.
