Mas del Gaio is a white wine that showcases Escoda-Sanahuja’s commitment to biodynamic practices in Conca de Barberà. Their vineyards enjoy long summers and cool winds from the sea, resulting in grapes—Sumoll Blanco, Parellada, White Grenache, and Macabeo—that reflect the clay-limestone soils and natural farming methods. Sheep and chickens roam between the rows, supplying natural compost, while vegetal mulch helps preserve vital moisture in the dry climate. Fermentation takes place mainly in large amphora, allowing the wine’s vivid character to develop without filtration or added sulphur. Expect aromas of stone fruit, subtle lemon verbena, and peach skins, along with a gentle saline note on the finish. The texture balances a fleshy mouthfeel with bright acidity, making this wine both refreshing and memorable. It’s a true example of how careful stewardship of the land can yield a vibrant and expressive Catalan white.
