Nikolas Juretic

Nikolas Juretic makes artisan wines in Cormons, in the Collio area of Friuli, close to the Slovenian border. His work is rooted in a small family vineyard history: his grandfather farmed a mixed piece of land with vegetables, animals, fruit trees and vines, following a way of life that Nikolas now sees as close to biodynamics and permaculture.

Before making his own wines, Nikolas studied art, worked in Australia, and later travelled with Simonit & Sirch, teaching careful pruning for longer-living vines. This experience shaped his respect for plants and soil. Today he farms old family vineyards on Ponka soils, mainly with local white grapes such as Tocai Friulano, Malvasia Istriana and Ribolla Gialla.

In the cellar, he works by taste rather than numbers. Maceration, whole bunches and ageing are adjusted to each vineyard and vintage. His wines are not made to be extreme; they search for balance between ripe fruit, freshness and the character of the place. Nikolas also paints his own labels, bringing his early love of art back into the bottle.
