Azimut Natural Wines
Azimut is the easy, Mediterranean side of Can Suriol del Castell, a family wine estate in Grabuac, in Alt Penedès. The wider Suriol story goes back a long way: the estate appears in records from 1179, the Suriol family took over the Castell de Grabuac in 1864, the vineyards were certified organic in 1996, and Assís Suriol took charge of winemaking in 2006.
The Azimut project was created with a clear purpose: to support organic growers, pay fair prices for grapes, make the wines with minimum intervention, and keep the final bottles affordable for drinkers. The range is rooted in Catalonia and built around traditional local grapes and the fresh, open style of Mediterranean wine culture.
What makes Azimut attractive is that this is not “natural wine” made to feel difficult. The wines are meant to be honest, lively and easy to enjoy, while still staying connected to place. Behind that simple style is serious farming: the Suriol family works organically, follows biodynamic ideas, keeps permanent plant cover in the vineyards, and uses animals to help fertilise and manage the land.
For a customer, Azimut is a good introduction to low-intervention Catalan wine: bottles with real agricultural roots, made by a family with deep history, but offered in a relaxed and approachable way.
