Chiguita is a white wine from Rioja Alavesa made from local white varieties: Macabeo, also known as Viura, Tempranillo Blanco and White Grenache. The grapes come from selected old vineyards grown on different soils, including ferrous clay and calcareous soils, which helps give the wine both freshness and depth.
The grapes are hand-picked, pressed as whole bunches and fermented in French oak barrels with native yeasts. The wine then spends six months in barrel on its fine lees, adding texture without covering the fruit.
In the glass, Chiguita shows notes of apple, pear, white fruit, light flowers and gentle herbal touches. On the palate it is fresh and balanced, with a soft honeyed feel, lively acidity and a slightly bitter finish that makes it easy to enjoy with food.
