La Pierre is a single-parcel Chardonnay from the Jura, coming from old vines (around 50 years) in Buvilly, near Pupillin. The plot sits on colourful iridescent marl with a limestone slab just under the surface, and its cool north-west exposure keeps the wine fresh and tense even in the warm 2023 vintage.
The vines are organically farmed and the grapes are picked by hand, then pressed as whole bunches. Fermentation starts naturally with indigenous yeasts, and the wine spends about a year on its lees in older 400L barrels, without stirring, fining or filtration. Only a small touch of sulphur is used.
In the glass, La Pierre is a clean, mineral Jura white with notes of white flowers, ripe yellow fruit and a hint of lemon and salt. The palate is straight and focused rather than broad, with lively acidity, good depth and a long, saline finish that really reflects its stony soils. A great match for oysters, ceviche, simple grilled fish or fresh goat’s cheese.
