Chardonnay Terres Grisses is a Jura white made from very old Chardonnay vines, around 80 to 90 years old, grown on three parcels in Arbois: Monteiller, La Mailloche and La Platière. All three sites sit on grey marl soils, which give the wine its firm freshness and a marked mineral character.
The parcels are co-fermented, then the wine spends three years ageing in barrel. This long élevage gives it depth and texture without taking away its natural energy. The result is a Chardonnay that opens slowly in the glass, with a steady, persistent palate and a good balance between roundness and tension.
This is not a simple fruit-forward white. It is a more thoughtful style, with structure, freshness and a long finish. A very good match for creamy poultry dishes, freshwater fish, mushrooms or nutty cheeses such as Comté.
