La Pretensión is an orange wine made from 100% Moscatel in El Puerto de Santa María, within Jerez. It comes from white albariza soils, which help the vines in the dry climate and give the wine a clear salty, mineral edge.
The winemaking is unusual and gives this wine much of its character. The grapes are picked by hand in several passes, then fermented with the skins and a small part of the stems, adding texture and a light grip. It is aged in old cognac barrels: one part develops under a veil of flor, the natural yeast layer linked to the Jerez area, while another part is carefully topped up each week.
Expect a dry, aromatic Moscatel with citrus notes, peach and apricot, balanced by a savoury, saline finish. It is bottled without filtration, keeping a direct and honest feel in the glass.
