This unique white wine from Alsace pays tribute to ancient Georgian winemaking while celebrating local tradition. Crafted by Philippe Brand, it blends Auxerrois, Chardonnay, and Riesling grapes, all macerated for ten months in traditional Kvevri (large clay amphorae) imported from Georgia. Buried in the winery’s garden and lined with a thin layer of beeswax, these vessels allow for a gentle oxygen exchange that highlights the wine’s natural character. An additional two months of aging in Kvevri further refines its texture and flavors.
Thanks to extended skin contact, this cuvée shows a structured mouthfeel, with fine-grained tannins reminiscent of classic amber wines from Georgia. The clay-limestone soils of Ergersheim contribute a delicate mineral backbone, while the biodynamic approach in the vineyard preserves the authentic essence of each grape. Bottled without filtration, the result is an enchanting expression of fruit and spice, balanced by fresh acidity. It’s an exciting choice for anyone curious about innovative Alsatian wines that push boundaries while honoring age-old techniques.
