Mouressipe Galapia is a fascinating natural red wine from the sun-drenched region of Languedoc, specifically Saint-Côme-et-Maruejols. Crafted by Alain Allier, a winemaker known for his delicate yet expressive style, this wine blends Monastrell (Mourvèdre) and Cinsault. The grapes are harvested from bush vines, which protect them from the intense southern French sun.
A short maceration, with a mix of foot-pressed and whole bunch fermentation, gives Galapia its unique balance of light body and grippy tannins. Aged for six months in old wooden barrels, rather than fibreglass like most of Mouressipe's wines, this process helps mellow the naturally robust Mourvèdre grape.
Expect flavors of crushed red berries, herbal notes, and a touch of leather, all complemented by a hint of funk. It pairs beautifully with cheese and charcuterie, where its structure and depth enhance the richness of cured meats and stronger cheeses. A bold yet approachable choice for lovers of natural wines.
