Ubuntu from Domaine Lampyres is a characterful skin-contact wine from Roussillon, made mostly from Grenache Gris with a small touch of Grenache Noir. The two varieties are harvested on the same day and fermented together as whole bunches for about a week, which gives the wine its light colour somewhere between rosé and pale red, plus gentle grip on the palate.
After pressing, the juice finishes fermentation and ages for around five months in sandstone amphora. This slow ageing on fine lees, without fining or filtration and with only a tiny touch of sulphur, keeps the wine very pure and lively. Grown organically on schist and clay-limestone soils around Espira-de-l’Agly, Ubuntu reflects its rocky, sun-soaked landscape.
In the glass you can expect bright notes of citrus and blood orange, hints of tropical fruit and flowers, and a lightly spicy, herbal edge. It drinks like a light red or a deep rosé: fresh, textured and very easy to enjoy slightly chilled, whether on its own or at the table.
