Bodegas Magasé
Bodegas Magasé is a small family winery in La Palma del Condado, Huelva, run by the Mañes–Izquierdo family. Their story begins with an old Zalema vineyard near Doñana, where bush-trained vines grow on albariza soils. The aim is to revive local wine culture and work “from the field to the bottle.”
In the vineyard they farm with biodiversity in mind. Andalusian donkeys help with weeding and moving grapes, and the old vines are tended by hand. In the cellar, interventions are kept low: fermentations start with native yeasts, and some wines age in clay amphorae under a light veil of flor, a traditional local method. (Manual harvest and native-yeast, amphora and flor aging are used on select cuvées.)
Magasé is led by winemaker Joaquín Mañes, supported by the family. The focus is Zalema, the local white grape, shown in different styles—from short skin-contact “Ánfora” to the more oxidative “Ámbar.” They also explore the landscape through small lots like BdN (a blanc de noirs from Syrah) and Vetalarena, which highlights the historic Listán del Condado variety.
If you’re curious about southern Spain beyond the well-known names, Magasé offers clear, place-driven wines made with a gentle hand. Start with Zalema to taste the region; then explore their limited releases for something different.
