Niloufar

Niloufar is the project of Niloufar Sharifi Esfarani, a Dutch winemaker now working in Alt Penedès, Catalonia. Her path to wine started not in a family cellar, but in restaurants: she worked as a sommelier in Rotterdam before deciding to leave that world and travel along the west coast of Europe with her surfboard.

A harvest job in the Médoc changed her direction. Working in the vineyard, close to one of her favourite surf spots, she understood that she did not only want to serve wine — she wanted to make it. Later, she continued learning at Reyneke in Stellenbosch, South Africa, where she discovered biodynamic farming, and at Nibiru in Austria, where she deepened her interest in wines made without additions.

After several years of experience, Niloufar began travelling through Europe in her van, Bennie, looking for a place to make her own wines. This journey brought her to Alt Penedès, where she rents two plots and has been producing her own wines since 2023.

Her work is based on natural winemaking, organic and biodynamic ideas, and respect for the soil. Wines such as Pink Moon, Mitja Lluna, Baraye, and Water of Love show her personal way of connecting farming, freedom, and everyday choices. Niloufar’s wines are not made to impress with force, but to share a clear idea: wine can be honest, alive, and connected to the person who makes it.
