Sumoi from Sicus is a light, coastal red made from 100% Sumoll, a native Catalan grape that was almost forgotten. The fruit comes from a single old-vine plot called El Roldonar, planted in the 1960s just 6 km from the Mediterranean. The vines grow on deep, silty limestone soils that bring freshness and a gentle salty note to the wine.
Eduard Pié farms organically and works with very low intervention: grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with whole bunches, and the juice is released only by its own weight, without pressing. After a long, slow infusion, the wine rests quietly in tank, without oak, fining or filtering, and only a tiny touch of sulfites.
In the glass, expect a pale, juicy red with flavours of wild strawberry, sour cherry and Mediterranean herbs, lifted by bright acidity and fine, light tannins. Delicious slightly chilled with grilled vegetables, simply cooked fish or everyday Mediterranean dishes.
