Cartoixà Brisat is Sicus’ skin-contact take on Xarel·lo, locally called Cartoixà. It comes from La Caseta, a single vineyard planted over 20 years ago on calcareous, well-drained soils, just 6 km from the Mediterranean Sea. That sea breeze and the limestone give the wine a light salty, mineral edge.
“Brisat” means macerated, and here the whole bunches ferment as an infusion with their skins for about eight months, with the juice running off by its own weight instead of being pressed. After that, the wine spends a short time in clay amphora and then rests in stainless steel, keeping it fresh and pure.
Made from organically farmed grapes, with spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtration and no added sulphites, this is a honest, low-intervention orange wine. Expect notes of citrus peel, herbal tea, dried stone fruit and almonds, wrapped in gentle tannins that give it the grip of a light red while staying very easy to drink.
