Coquette is an Alsace red with an unusual mix: Pinot Gris, Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir. This gives it a style that feels different from a classic red wine, with a fresh, crisp character and a light aromatic touch.
The grapes come from clay-limestone soils around Mittelbergheim. In the cellar, Domaine Rietsch uses spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and a 14-day semi-carbonic maceration, a method that helps keep the fruit lively and easy to enjoy. The wine then spends 8 months in large wooden foudre and vat before blending.
Serve it slightly cool if you like your reds bright and refreshing. It can work well with tapas, vegetable dishes, light cheeses or simply as a relaxed glass before dinner.
