Penhó Critique is a distinctive white wine from the Vinho Verde region of northern Portugal, carefully crafted with respect for traditional methods. Made from a unique blend of old vine grapes—mainly Arinto, Treixadura, and Azal Branco—the vines average around 70 years, rooted deeply in granite soils.
Critique is produced through natural winemaking techniques, including foot-treading and a gentle, three-day pre-fermentation maceration, followed by fermentation and maturation in large used barrels over 18 months, resting on its lees to enhance texture and complexity. The minimal intervention approach is emphasized, with no fining, filtration, or stabilization. Just a tiny amount of sulphur is used at bottling, making this wine particularly suited to vegans and lovers of natural wines.
This wine carries the authentic taste of tradition, showcasing an expressive profile that feels timeless. With limited production, Penhó Critique invites wine enthusiasts to discover a genuine, historical expression from the Minho region.
