Nach is Milan Nestarec’s idea of the classic everyday Moravian red, bottled in a generous 1-litre format so there’s enough to share. It’s a blend of Blaufränkisch and Pinot Noir from organically farmed clay soils around Velké Bílovice and Moravský Žižkov. The name “Nach” means “purple” in Czech, a nod to its bright colour and easy character.
The grapes are destemmed but left as whole berries, fermented gently in open vats with only free-run juice used. The wine then rests in stainless steel and old wooden barrels, without fining or filtration and with only a tiny touch of sulfur before bottling, which keeps it a bit cloudy and very lively.
In the glass, expect fresh, juicy fruit with notes of cherry and blackcurrant, a hint of plum, plus subtle herbal and tea-like tones. Tannins are soft, making it great slightly chilled. Nach is made to be direct, fun and drinkable – a relaxed Moravian red for picnics, casual dinners or just an uncomplicated evening at home.
