Bandi is the friendly white cuvée at the heart of the Mátyás family winery, named after András and his father’s nickname. It brings together the estate’s key varieties – Riesling, Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Feteasca Regala and a touch of Chardonnay – from organically farmed vineyards near the protected Drieňová hora reserve in southern Slovakia.
Each grape is fermented separately with native yeasts in neutral oak, then blended just before bottling. Some parts spend a few weeks on the skins, and the wine rests on its lees in barrel for around 10 months, giving extra texture without heaviness.
In the glass, Bandi is softly golden and a little hazy, with aromas of ripe orchard fruit – pears, yellow apples, mirabelles – joined by notes of baked apple, meadow herbs, dry hay and subtle minerality. On the palate it is medium-bodied, juicy and fresh, with lively acidity and a long, clean finish. A natural, unfiltered, vegan white that is both characterful and very easy to drink.
