Kerner is a white grape better known from Germany, but it is still rare in Slovenia. Matic makes it as a light orange wine, with 14 days of skin contact in steel tanks. This gives the wine its deep yellow colour, a little texture, and a fuller feel, while keeping it fresh and easy to enjoy.
In the glass, it shows clear notes of fresh pineapple, followed by mango, lychee and other tropical fruit as it gets some air. There is also a gentle earthy side, which balances the fruit and makes the wine more food-friendly. The story behind it adds extra character: Matic dedicated this Kerner to his grandfather, who grew the grape in the 1980s even when it was not officially allowed. Try it with shellfish, white fish with lemon, vegetarian dishes, or mildly spiced Asian food.
