Matassa Rouge is a natural red wine from Roussillon, made mainly from old Carignan vines grown on marly soils. The wine is handled with a light touch: hand-harvested grapes, indigenous yeasts, short skin contact, and bottling without filtering or fining.
In the glass, it shows a fresh and earthy side of southern France. Expect red fruit such as cranberry and redcurrant, together with notes of forest floor, herbs, pepper and a gentle smoky edge. The body is lean rather than heavy, with lively acidity and fine tannins that keep the wine moving.
It is a good choice for mushroom dishes, roasted vegetables, tapas, duck, light game or grilled blue fish. A red with character, but still easy to enjoy at the table.
