Matassa’s Cuvée Marguerite is a characterful natural orange wine made from a blend of Muscat Petit Grain, Muscat d’Alexandrie, Macabeu, and occasionally Viognier, sourced from century-old vines in the hills of Montner, Roussillon. These vines grow on a mix of schist and marl soils, surrounded by Mediterranean scrubland, and are farmed organically and biodynamically.
The grapes are harvested by hand early in the morning and fermented on their skins using indigenous yeasts. This wine undergoes a gentle, low-intervention process—no added sulfites, no fining or filtration—and matures for 10 to 12 months on its lees in large old barrels. The result is a fresh, floral, and textured wine with subtle tannins and aromas reminiscent of citrus, herbs, and white fruits.
Cuvée Marguerite is named after the winemaker’s grandmother and reflects both the purity of its fruit and the rugged southern French terroir. A standout example of orange wine, it pairs beautifully with light dishes, seafood, or simply on its own.
