Camporomano is La Stoppa’s pure Barbera from the sunny hills of the Trebbia Valley in Emilia-Romagna, made only in vintages where the grapes reach excellent ripeness and balance. The Barbera vines, 20 to 45 years old, grow on clay-loam soils and are farmed organically, with no fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides.
The grapes macerate on the skins for about 40 days before a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine then rests in used French oak barriques and large wooden vats, and finally in bottle, without filtration and without added sulphur.
In the glass, Camporomano is deep ruby, with notes of black fruits, balsamic hints and gentle sweet spices. On the palate it is robust yet fresh, with lively acidity, firm structure and a long, flavourful finish. A short time in the glass helps it open up and find its balance.
This is a characterful Barbera that ages very well and shines alongside rich dishes like braised beef, stews or slow-cooked red meats.
