This Arbois Pinot Noir from Domaine Ratte shows a very pure, natural side of Jura Pinot. The vines grow on marly soils, which give the wine its clear fruit and a gentle mineral note. Grapes are picked by hand and even destemmed manually in the vineyard, then fermented with native yeasts and left to macerate for about three weeks. There is no filtration and no added sulphur, so what you taste is really the grape and its place.
In the glass, it’s bright and vivid, with aromas of red fruits and small dark berries like blackcurrant, elderberry and blackberry. On the palate, the fruit feels immediate and juicy, with enough firmness in the tannins to give structure and promise a few years of good aging. Freshness keeps everything in balance.
It’s a lovely bottle to open with red meat, flavourful pasta dishes, mature cheeses, or even a simple piece of dark chocolate.
