Margot is a light red from Roussillon that sits happily between a deeper rosé and a juicy red, made mostly from old-vine Grenache Noir with Carignan and a touch of Mourvèdre. The grapes come from organic vineyards on schist and clay-limestone soils around Espira-de-l’Agly, giving the wine both fruit and a clear mineral edge.
Carignan and Mourvèdre are pressed directly for a very lightly coloured juice, while the Grenache spends a week in whole bunches before pressing. Everything ferments with native yeasts in tank and is bottled unfined and unfiltered with only a tiny amount of sulphur, so what you taste is very close to the fruit.
In the glass, Margot shows red fruit notes with a gentle yoghurt-and-cream feel, lifted by hints of thyme and a flinty touch. It’s an easy, refreshing red that you can even serve slightly cool, ideal for relaxed meals and sharing with friends.
