Blanc de Méandre is an organic Extra Brut Champagne named after the great bend of the Marne river where its grapes are grown. It is made mainly from Chardonnay, which is less common in this part of the Marne Valley, with a smaller share of Meunier adding roundness.
The wine reflects a mix of limestone, clay, sand and alluvial soils. Part of the wine is aged in wooden barrels and part in concrete egg-shaped vats, helping to bring both freshness and a smooth texture. In the glass, it shows fine bubbles and a pale golden colour. Expect aromas of fresh almond, vanilla, brioche and frangipane, followed by pear, mandarin and soft stewed fruit on the palate. With its very dry style and lively finish, it works well as a refined aperitif or with light starters.
