Mas Candí
Celler Mas Candí is a family winery in Les Gunyoles d’Avinyonet, at the edge of the Garraf Natural Park in Penedès. The project was built by Ramon Jané and Mercè Cuscó in 2005, with the first vintage released in 2006. For Mercè’s family, this is not new land: records show the family was already farming here in the 17th century. That long connection explains the spirit of Mas Candí. It was created not simply to make wine, but to continue the work of earlier generations and bottle the character of vineyards that had been cared for by their families for many years.
Ramon grew up in a winegrowing family in Penedès, studied viticulture and oenology, and trained in Burgundy and Champagne before returning home. Together with Mercè, he shaped Mas Candí around respect for nature, careful farming, and a wish to protect local grape varieties. From the beginning, they focused on Xarel·lo and Sumoll, two grapes that are deeply linked to the area and well suited to the local climate. They also work to recover older, nearly forgotten varieties, while keeping intervention low both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Today Mas Candí farms 20 hectares in Avinyonet del Penedès and Guardiola de Font-Rubí, and both the vineyards and cellar are certified organic. Their work combines still wines with sparkling wines, and since 2018 they have also been part of Corpinnat. The result is a producer that feels rooted, curious, and very clearly tied to Penedès.
