Vins Nus

Vins Nus is the natural wine project of Alfredo Arribas, a Barcelona architect who entered wine in 2001 after buying Clos del Portal in Priorat. Alongside his work in Priorat, he also began recovering old vineyards in Montsant, and later created Vins Nus as a separate line focused on high-altitude sites in the northern part of the region. His path into wine seems personal as well as professional: Arribas has spoken about childhood summers with his grandfather, who was a grower in Ribera del Duero.

What makes Vins Nus interesting is its clear idea: fewer additions, less weight, and more attention to place. The project is built around freshness, altitude and non-interventionist work in the cellar, with little or no oak, gentle extraction, and an emphasis on acidity rather than power. The wines are made in Laab, Arribas’ experimental cellar, where spontaneous fermentations and careful ageing are part of the process.

Even though Alfredo Arribas is well known for architecture, Vins Nus does not feel like a side project. It is another way for him to explore form, balance and landscape. The result is a range of wines that show a lighter, more delicate side of Priorat and Montsant, while staying very close to the character of the vineyards.

This orange wine from Vins Nus represents an experimental approach to winemaking in Spain's Montsant region. The wine undergoes an extended 60-day skin contact in amphoras, with early harvest timing to maintain optimal acidity.
